According to The Sun, former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wanted to bring Christian Eriksen to Old Trafford before receiving the sack.
Van Gaal’s two-year spell in the Old Trafford came to an end on Monday evening, as despite winning the FA Cup against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Red Devils decided it was time for change.

Jose Mourinho is widely seen as the man to replace Van Gaal, but now claims are emerging about what Van Gaal had planned for the summer transfer window.
The Sun report that Van Gaal had started a move to sign Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen this summer, having enjoyed a superb season for Spurs.

The claims appear to stem from tweets by Press Association’s Tom Allnutt, with Eriksen believed to be one of Van Gaal’s top targets as he looked to improve his United squad, before being sacked earlier this week.
With eight goals and 14 assists in all competitions, Eriksen was a key player under Mauricio Pochettino this term, serving a key creative role in the Spurs side as they challenged for the Premier League title.

Eriksen’s Spurs contract runs until 2018, but as reported by The Sun, Spurs have been trying to tie him down to a new and improved contract, and with Van Gaal now gone from United, a move to Old Trafford appears to be unlikely, increasing Tottenham’s chances of keeping him long-term – if Van Gaal really was interested in signing the playmaker this summer.
