Van Dijk still holds his former club in high regard, and The Times reports he “sees a similarity in the stature of the fan bases at Liverpool and former club Celtic and the passion which surrounds a footballing institution.”
The famous You’ll Never Walk Alone anthem is sung by the two clubs too and the Dutchman would certainly feel at home if he made the switch to Anfield.
There are other factors in play too, it is claimed Van Dijk genuinely believes Liverpool can challenge for the title, while he also is in line to earn a whopping £200,000 per week.
Yet wages and title hopes would be on offer at Manchester City and Chelsea too, yet neither club have quite the same reputation or history as Liverpool, and it is clear to see why the Southampton ace has his heard set on a move to Merseyside.
