Tottenham Hotspur’s reported hopes of signing Donny van de Beek appear to have suffered a setback, partially thanks to Christian Eriksen.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Marca, Real Madrid are now considering a move for Donny van de Beek, with Zinedine Zidane deciding against pursuing a deal for Tottenham star Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen’s future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is up in the air this summer, but it appears that he will not be heading to the Bernabeu, with Marca reporting that Zidane has shown a lack of interest in the Dane as he considers alternative targets to Paul Pogba.
And the man that Marca reports he wants if he cannot have Pogba is van de Beek, with the report noting that he will be a much easier player to land during this window, and will cost Los Blancos around £89 million less than the Frenchman.
Where does that leave Tottenham?
On the face of things, it appears that it could be good news for Mauricio Pochettino’s men that it is now looking even less likely that Eriksen will be heading to Madrid this summer. But based on recent reports, this latest update actually appears to have the potential to be a real blow to Spurs’ plans.
The Daily Mirror recently suggested that Eriksen could well still end up on the move this summer, with Manchester United and Juventus linked with potential moves for the playmaker.
And it was suggested by the Daily Mail last month that van de Beek was the player that Pochettino plans to pursue if he does lose Eriksen. So it would appear that there is no guarantee that he will stay with Spurs, and they now face an even tougher task trying to get the replacement he wants with Madrid switching their attention.
