According to Superdeporte, Valencia have been offered the chance to sign reported Aston Villa target Jose Callejon but have stalled on making a move.

The Napoli attacker is out of contract this summer and set to leave.

Aston Villa and Everton have been linked with the Spaniard. According to A report by Area Napoli, the Premier League duo were keen on him during the January transfer window.

Eurocalciomercato then claimed Villa were readying a three-year contract for him in March.

Callejon is seemingly wanting to remain in Europe rather than head for China or the MLS. The 33-year-old is said to feel he still has what it takes to succeed at a top club.

But the latest reports from Spain claim Valencia aren’t in a rush to sign him.

Superdeporte don’t rule out a summer switch to the Mestalla stadium. But, for the time being, Valencia aren’t making a move while Getafe are also keen.

Callejon cost Napoli a bargain £8 million when he signed from Real Madrid in 2013.

Despite his age, the Spaniard still managed to start 19 Serie A games for Napoli this term prior to the Covid-19 suspension, posting two goals and six assists.

Villa may have been looking at Callejon as they look to address their lack of creativity.

There is huge pressure on Jack Grealish to front Villa’s survival bid. The Villa skipper is far and away the club’s most prominent player, topping the charts for goals and assists.

But beyond Grealish there appears a real dearth of quality. Dean Smith’s side are 19th in the Premier League table, and they’re in a fight for survival.
