Tottenham Hotspur have shown their hand in the chase for Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo.
Tottenham Hotspur fans may still be waiting for a new face to arrive in North London but it appears that last season’s Premier League runners-up are about to spring into life with just over a fortnight remaining before the window slams shut.
Speculation is mounting that Ajax’s Colombian defender Davinson Sanchez could become Tottenham’s new record signing, Sky Sports reporting that Spurs had a bid of £36.6 million rejected but remain determined to land the 21-year-old.

And he could be joined in a potential new-look backline by Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo – if Spurs convince Valencia to sell, that is.
Since losing Kyle Walker to Manchester City, Tottenham have been linked with a wide range of right-backs from Hoffenheim’s Jeremy Toljan to Porto’s Ricardo Pereira.
However, it appears that Cancelo, a technically gifted youngster who has been linked with Juventus, Inter Milan and Chelsea this summer, is now their top target.
However, this is just £2.5 million short of the fee demanded by the La Liga giants. The report adds that they may be convinced to sell Cancelo if a bid of £22.5 million is made, despite demanding manager Marcelino Garcia Toral insisting that he sees the 23-year-old as crucial to his plans.

It appears likely that Cancelo will depart the Mestalla this summer and, with just £2.5 million separating them from a deal, Spurs should not let this opportunity pass them by.
