According to AS, Valencia have contacted Crystal Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita over a potential summer move back to his former club.

The Eagles shot-stopper has just one year remaining on his contract.

At 33, Valencia feel Guaita could represent a cheap solution to their goalkeeping problems and have taken the first steps to sign him.

Spanish editorial AS claim Valencia have contacted the player to find out if he is keen on a return to the Mestalla and the conditions in which Palace will let him go.

Guaita leaving Palace this summer would leave a big void at Selhurst Park.

The Spaniard is a hugely underrated figure in the Premier League. Keeping nine clean sheets, he betters Manchester United’s David de Gea among others.

Palace have found goals extremely hard to come by. Their safe midtable position is largely a result of a sturdy defence and Guaita’s ability in goal.

Stephen Henderson and former number one Wayne Hennessey make up Palace’s goalkeeping options. Neither, however, have matched Guaita’s consistency.

Valencia are also said to be considering Alaves ace Fernando Pacheco and Levante number one Aitor Fernandez, but Guaita remains the most popular choice.
