Could the 13-cap attacking midfielder replace Diogo Jota at Wolverhampton Wanderers next season?
Giorgian de Arrascaeta, the Uruguayan number 10, has proposals from Wolverhampton Wanderers and AS Monaco, according to UOL Esporte.
It is claimed the pair want to finalise the 23-year-old’s transfer before the close of this summer’s World Cup – in which De Arrascaeta is due to participate with La Celeste – although Cruzeiro, his Brazilian employers, hope to keep him until their season ends ahead of the winter transfer window.
UOL reports that Jorge Mendes – the agent who has helped to facilitate several of Wolves and Monaco’s recent transactions – would be involved in any deal for De Arrascaeta, whose contract runs until 2021 and is said to contain a termination clause of €30 million (£26.3 million).
The former Defensor Sporting player – who has scored or assisted 34 goals in 89 games for Cruzeiro – previously admitted that playing in Europe would fulfil a childhood dream.
And it is one that could be easily realised, with De Arrascaeta holding dual Uruguayan and Italian nationality, according to Transfermarkt.
De Arrascaeta’s signing could help to fill the void created by Diogo Jota’s Wolves exit – or compliment the Portuguese forward should he return to Molineux next season.
