Sunderland have made one addition in the January transfer window so far.

According to a report in the Telegraph, David Moyes is stepping up his search for a striker at Sunderland.

The Black Cats have prioritised signing defenders this January, with Joleon Lescott penning a short-term deal at the Stadium of Light earlier this week.

Moyes has made no secret of his belief that Sunderland will need to add quality to their squad if they are to avoid the drop.

And the Scottish boss has now turned his attentions to improving his front line, after Victor Anichebe’s injury.

Anichebe is set to miss the next three months of the season, in what is a huge blow for Sunderland.

The Black Cats are now looking to the free transfer and loan market, as they attempt to bring in a new forward.

Sunderland are only planning to offer their new striker a short-term deal, but they are looking for someone who can improve their fortunes immediately.

Sunderland are currently sat at the bottom of the Premier League table, three points away from safety.
