Newcastle United loaned out Rolando Aarons to Sheffield Wednesday for the second half of last season.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has been unimpressed with Rolando Aarons’ work-ethic and application and still wants to sell him, despite a relatively productive loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday last season.

Aarons was once considered to be one of Newcastle’s best prospects, but he has never really kicked on at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle decided to loan Aarons to Wednesday in January last year, and the winger made 10 appearances for Steve Bruce’s side, scoring once.

It was thought that the temporary move away may make Benitez reconsider the 23-year-old’s future.

However, it seems that if the Spaniard does stay on at St. James’ Park then Newcastle will not be keeping Aarons.

At the age of 23, Benitez may just be making a smart decision, as Aarons needs to get regular football.

The Jamaican probably has too much competition in front of him to earn a place in Newcastle’s team.

And a move into the Championship, possibly with Wednesday again, may be best for all involved.
