Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has still not agreed new terms to stay at St. James’ Park.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United could face a mass exodus if Rafael Benitez leaves, but goalkeeping coach Simon Smith will definitely be staying.

Benitez has just over a week remaining on his current contract at Newcastle, and new terms have still not been agreed.

There are now real concerns around St. James’ Park that the experienced Spaniard could leave this summer.

If Benitez does depart Newcastle then it is expected that many of his back-room team will also depart.

Newcastle coaches Paco de Míguel Moreno, Antonio Gómez and Mikel Antía are all said to be likely to leave Tyneside if Benitez goes.

However, Smith wants to stay at Newcastle and will stand firm.

That is a minor boost to Newcastle, but Benitez’s departure would still prove a massive blow to the side.

Newcastle are highly unlikely to be able to attract a better manager than the former Liverpool boss.

Benitez is also hugely popular on Tyneside, and if he was to depart, Mike Ashley would face a backlash from Newcastle fans.
