Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez will be hoping that the takeover goes through before the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, Mike Ashley is going to reject Amanda Staveley’s first offer for Newcastle United.

Staveley has made a £250 million bid for Newcastle, but Ashley is intending to reject that offer.

Ashley initially wanted £400 million for the Magpies, but is said to be willing to drop that asking price considerably now.

Ashley would accept £300 million, but whether Staveley will come back with an improved offer remains to be seen.

It is believed that Staveley is very keen to buy the club, but she will have to come back with a fresh bid for any deal to be made.

Contrary to prior reports, the Mail claim that Staveley is the only party that is currently in for Newcastle.

Rafael Benitez will be keen for the takeover to go through sooner rather than later, with the January transfer window coming closer.

Benitez wants to invest in his squad, but if Ashley remains at the helm he may only have a limited budget to spend on any improvements.

Newcastle have not won any of their last six Premier League matches and have slipped down to 14th in the table, with concerns forming that they could be relegated.
