Celtic defender Efe Ambrose has reportedly snubbed moves to Rotherham United and Standard Liege.
Celtic’s Efe Ambrose looks dejected
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic defender Efe Ambrose rejected moves to both Rotherham United and Standard Liege on deadline day.
The Bhoys didn’t make a new signing on deadline day, meaning Brendan Rodgers ends his first summer as Celtic boss with five new signings – Dorus De Vries, Cristian Gamboa, Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele.

It’s been a successful summer for Celtic, but they failed to move defender Efe Ambrose out of the club on deadline day despite their attempts to get him off the books.
Nigerian international Ambrose, 27, has been heavily criticised during his time at Celtic, as he’s been error-prone ever since signing from Israeli side Ashdod in 2012.

Clearly out of favour under Rodgers, many expected Ambrose to leave before Wednesday’s transfer deadline passed – but, as reported by The Scottish Sun, the defender actually refused two moves away from the club.
It’s claimed that Ambrose was given permission to speak to Championship side Rotherham United as former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs looked to snap up Ambrose before the deadline, but he rejected that move.

It’s added that he also snubbed a £300,000 move to Belgium with Standard Liege, meaning he’s now stuck at Celtic until at least January, despite clearly being unwanted at Celtic Park.
Given that he’s struggled during his time at Celtic, and the fact that Rodgers signed a new right back and centre back – the two positions Ambrose can play in – suggest that he’ll have a hard time turning his fortunes around at Celtic Park.
