Manchester United have reportedly identified Aston Villa star Emi Martinez as a potential replacement for David De Gea.

According to the Daily Star, the 29-year-old is on a list of goalkeeping targets for the Red Devils. De Gea has been the Manchester giants’ number one this season. However, his deal expires in 18-months.

As a result, United are drawing up potential replacements for the Spanish international, with Martinez one of the names on the list. As per the report, United could make a £50m move for the Argentine.

The former Arsenal star isn’t the only Villa player United have been linked to in recent months.

As reported by the Sun, Ralf Rangnick is keen on signing John McGinn, who has been rumoured with a move to Old Trafford ever since the Villains return to the Premier League.

Indeed, Martinez has been one of Villa’s best players since arriving last summer, and interest in United could be tempting for the Argentine goalkeeper, who has flourished into one of the world’s best shot-stoppers.

Martinez is too invaluable to sell for £50m to United

£50m for a goalkeeper in their late twenties might seem like a dream offer for many clubs, but for Villa, they simply can’t allow Martinez to leave the club for a Premier League rival in United.

After all, the 29-year-old is one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe. And replacing Martinez for £50m will be too great a task for Villa even if United were to approach them with an offer of this magnitude.
