Villarreal have joined Leeds United and Aston Villa in the race for Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the summer transfer window, according to The Times.

The report has claimed that the Martinez is in talks with Arsenal over a new contract, but has interest from three clubs.

Spanish club Villarreal are now managed by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, and the La Liga outfit are competing with Premier League duo Leeds and Villa for the 27-year-old Argentine, according to the report.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Leeds are looking to sign Martinez, while The Independent has claimed that Villa are planning to make a bid of £10 million for the goalkeeper.

Arsenal stay or exit?

Martinez showed in the final weeks of last season that he is good enough to play for Arsenal on a regular basis.

The problem is that Bernd Leno is the first-choice goalkeeper at the Gunners, and it was due to an injury to the German that Martinez got his chance.

It would be harsh on the 27-year-old to be dropped, but it is hard to see Arsenal head coach Mike Arteta not draft Leno back into the starting lineup for the upcoming Premier League season.
