Manchester City defender Nathan Ake is reportedly on AC Milan’s radar as the Italian giants step up their efforts to sign a defender this month.
According to Sky Sports Italia via Milan Live, the UEFA Champions League titans are keeping tabs on Ake, who has recently enjoyed a productive run in the City XI at both centre-back and left-back.
The defender, who joined the Manchester giants in 2020 for a reported £40m according to BBC Sport, has often been linked with a move away from City given his status as a squad player.
Ake has only made 27 appearances for City since joining 18 months ago. However, Pep Guardiola is a huge fan of the Dutch international, with the Premier League boss once stating via the club’s official website that it is ‘a joy’ to watch the defender in training.
Whilst a move this window would likely be for the best for both Ake and City, the former Chelsea star’s recent run in the team could make a transfer unlikely. The 26-year-old has started the last three games, with the Manchester giants winning all three.
Indeed, staying with City seems to be the most likely outcome from this rumour. However, Ake could be making a mistake remaining at the club with a historic side like Milan eyeing a move for the defender.
Ake could have a starring role at Milan if he makes January switch
The Italian giants remain firmly in the race for the Serie A title, with Milan fighting with city rivals Inter for the Scudetto. And for Ake, the defender could be the one to tip the balance in the favour of the Rossoneri.
After all, the Dutch international will likely return to the City bench once the defence have returned from injuries and Covid-19. And Ake could find regular football and another title challenge with Milan if he takes the risk to leave this January.
