Juventus are reportedly eager on Newcastle United making a move for French midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the January transfer window.

According to TuttoSport, the Italian giants are eager to offload the 26-year-old in the upcoming market. As per the report, Juventus want to reduce their wage bill. And Rabiot’s £187,000-a-week contract takes up a good chunk of the payroll.

Whilst the former PSG star has featured quite a bit for Juventus this season, manager Massimiliano Allegri does not view Rabiot as a key part of the UCL side’s future, and Newcastle could be a potential destination for the Frenchman.

As per the report, Juventus are ‘hoping’ Eddie Howe’s side make a move for Rabiot in the summer. Moreover, central midfield is a position Newcastle are aiming to strengthen in the January window.

Indeed, Rabiot could be the first big-name player Newcastle sign under their new owners. According to the Telegraph, Howe will have £50m to spend in January, with the Toon keen to bring quality into the squad to avoid relegation.

With Newcastle bottom of the Premier League table, winter additions will be needed. Furthermore, Rabiot could be an excellent addition to add to the midfield if the northeast side are to claw their way out of the drop zone.

Rabiot leaving Juventus could be a realistic transfer this January. Yet for Newcastle to be the side that claims the midfielder’s signature, the club’s form heading into the window could be key in the Frenchman deciding to move to Tyneside.

Indeed, whilst a lack of European football is already a blow for Newcastle, there is a chance that a transformation under Howe could play pivotal in landing some quality players in the January transfer window, including Rabiot.
