Newcastle United and Tottenham face strong competition for AS Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout, with AC Milan now eyeing the Frenchman.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the UEFA Champions League giants are keen to find a replacement for Franck Kessie, another target for Spurs, as soon as possible, with Veretout one of the candidates to take the Ivorian’s place next season.

As per CalcioMercato, though, both Newcastle and Tottenham have an interest in Veretout, who spent two years on Aston Villa’s books before leaving the Birmingham-based club due to a lack of consistency.

Since moving to Italy, though, Veretout has found his footing, with the 28-year-old starring for ACF Fiorentina before moving to Roma. However, the midfielder now looks set to leave Jose Mourinho’s side this summer.

With options available, it will be interesting to see where Veretout ends up in the off-season. However, there’s no denying that Milan offers the most alluring prospect for the former Premier League star.

Indeed, Veretout has impressed in Italy for two top Serie A clubs, and Milan could be a fitting next step for the former Nantes star even with both Newcastle and Tottenham chasing the midfielder.

Veretout has experience in the Premier League with Villa, however, with that experience ending poorly for the France international, the 28-year-old could be more inclined to stay in Italy, especially with Milan now eyeing him.

With Stefan Pioli’s side likely to qualify for the Champions League next season and potentially as Serie A champions, joining Milan over Newcastle and Tottenham seems like a no-brainer for Veretout, who could be reserved about returning to the Premier League.
