Ex-Tottenham flop Paulinho could join Bayern Munich this summer.
Tottenham’s Paulinho looks dejected against Manchester City
According to a report from RMC Sport, Bayern Munich are pushing to sign Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder Paulinho, in a move that would stun Tottenham fans.
In the summer of 2013, Spurs – led by manager Andre Villas-Boas and technical director Franco Baldini, swooped to land Paulinho in a big-money move from Corinthians, having starred in his native Brazil.
With 34 goals in 161 games for Corinthians and a number of caps for Brazil having featured at the Confederations Cup, Paulinho arrived with great promise as a box-to-box midfielder – but like many before him, the move from South America to the Premier League proved too difficult.
Whilst he hit eight goals in all competitions in his first season, Paulinho failed to really impress on a consistent basis, and lasted just one season under Mauricio Pochettino before being sold to Guangzhou Evergrande in 2015.
A reunion with former Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari tempted Paulinho over to China, but his Spurs legacy will always be one of failure – and he was even named as Tottenham’s worst ever player in Four Four Two last month.
However, the Spurs flop could now be making a stunning move, as RMC Sport claim that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Paulinho, with manager Carlo Ancelotti keen to bring him back to Europe.
Paulinho in action for Brazil against Uruguay
One of the biggest clubs in the world and a giant of the Champions League, Bayern have top midfielders such as Arturo Vidal, Thiago Alcantara, Joshua Kimmich and Renato Sanches, but the imminent retirement of Xabi Alonso means Bayern may be in the market for one midfielder.
With Paulinho’s agent allegedly contacted about a move to the Allianz Arena, the 28-year-old could make a staggering switch to Bayern this summer – just two years after he brought his Tottenham nightmare to an end.
