Thorsten Fink has turned down a job offer from the Middle East as he wants a European role instead, The Star reports of the Sheffield Wednesday-linked manager.
Could the Owls be about to flit from one idea to something completely different?
After hiring and firing Championship specialist Tony Pulis in the blink of an eye, Wednesday may be tempted to hand over the keys to a man who has never worked in Britain before – let alone in the merciless habitat that is England’s second tier.
The Star reports Fink has applied for the vacant managerial post at Hillsbrough.
The 53-year-old former Hamburg, Basel and Grasshoppers coach has his heart set on a return to Europe after lifting the Emperor’s Cup alongside Andres Iniesta at Japanese outfit Vissel Kobe.

Fink has even turned down what was presumably a money-spinning offer from an unnamed Middle Eastern outfit.
He has also received an approach from the US, while recently turning down the chance to take over at crisis-hit Schalke who, thanks to a Matthew Hoppe hat-trick against Hoffenheim, finally overcame their 30-game winless streak over the weekend.
Former Bayern Munich midfielder Fink would certainly be a left-field choice for relegation-threatened Wednesday but his CV makes for intriguing reading.
Before heading to the Far East, Fink guided Basel to a pair of Swiss Super League titles.
However, the Championship has chewed up and spat out managers with a fine track record before – just ask Vladimir Ivic.
