Report: Two Liverpool players set to be offered new contracts, as Edwards gets to work

Liverpool are ready to offer new contracts to both Caoimhin Kelleher and Alisson, the Athletic suggest.

Kelleher emerged as a fine prospect for Liverpool last season, after being given a chance following an injury to Allison.

The youngster was promoted to be Liverpool’s number two after impressing between the sticks, and his new deal is said to be reward for his improved first-team status.

The Athletic also says that tying Alisson down to a long-term deal is seen as a priority by Michael Edwards.

Interestingly, Liverpool have also handed a contract to Adrian, who is now firmly third choice.

If Adrian does sign the deal it means that Liverpool’s goalkeeping department could be very stable for the next few years, with the trio all tied down to new deals.

Reason to celebrate

Alisson penning a new contract would obviously have to be considered great news for Liverpool, given his importance to the side.

But getting Kelleher’s future sorted would also be a major positive, even if it may not attract many headlines.

The Irishman looks to have an extremely bright future and if he can continue to develop he could put real pressure on Alisson in time.

Liverpool do at least know that they have very reliable back-up now, as Alisson does have a slight tendency to miss games through injury, and it is possible that Kelleher could get more game time next season, if the Brazilian fails to stay fit.
