The Aston Villa midfielder looks like he could be heading for the exit door this summer
Carles Gil celebrates after scoring for Aston Villa
Reports emanating from Spain today suggest that Real Betis have entered the race to sign Villa midfielder Carles Gil, according to reputable Spanish media outlet AS.
The 24-year-old moved to Villa Park from Valencia in January 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.2 million, but failed to establish himself in the West Midlands, before being loaned out to Deportivo La Coruna last summer.
Whilst showcasing his technical prowess during his time in England, the diminutive midfielder proved to be way off the mark physically, with his game being suited to the more pedestrian paced football in La Liga.
And AS claim that Gil could be moving back to his homeland on a permanent basis this summer, suggesting that Deportivo have been joined by Betis in the race to obtain his signature.
Aston Villa Manager Steve Bruce
Steve Bruce will certainly be looking to reshuffle his pack at Aston Villa this summer, as he looks to build a squad capable of making a sustained challenge for promotion next term.
AS sport believe that the Villans are looking for around €6 million (£5.25 million) for Gil, but might very well have to settle for substantially less than that, with both Betis and Depor struggling form a financial aspect.
There will surely not be too many Villa fans unhappy with the prospect of losing Gil, however, irrelevant of price.
