Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur and Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are set to miss out on the signing of Blackburn Rovers defender Ashley Phillips in the summer transfer window, according to The London Evening Standard.
Tottenham and Chelsea target Ashley Phillips to stay at Blackburn
The London Evening Standard have reported that Tottenham were winning the race for Blackburn defender Phillips and were edging closer to securing his services ahead of Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.
However, the 17-year-old is now expected to stay at Blackburn, who are keen on tying him down on a new deal, according to the report.
The report, though, has not mentioned exactly what has changed in regard to the situation of Phillips, described as “phenomenal” who is “fast” and “mobile” by former Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray in LancsLive in November 2021.

No big miss
In our view, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur missing out on Ashley Phillips in the summer transfer window is not a big deal for either club.
After all, Phillips is only 17 and has only just broken into the Blackburn first team.
It could take a while for the defender to get to the level where he could turn out for the Tottenham or the Chelsea first team.
