90Min claim that Kieran Trippier will be handed a mammoth wage at Newcastle United, that will see the England star become his new side’s highest earner. Indeed, it could be worth more than £160,000 a week.

Trippier, 31, is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Tyneside this month. The England international has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premier League – and now, he is set to join the Toon.

Sky Sports reported on Monday that Newcastle were confident of his arrival – which is believed to cost in the region of £25million. Newcastle hope that Trippier is one of four signings in January, including a centre-back.

Now, 90Min report that Trippier will be handed wages that are more than double his current £80k-a-week cheque. It will see him far eclipse any of his new teammates, as he looks set to become the new owners’ first recruit.

Trippier wages: Newcastle showing they mean business

Landing Trippier is huge for Newcastle. The need for a right-back is enormous, but also the lack of quality and leadership at the back is alarming. The Euro 2020 finalist certainly improves that, massively.

What Trippier will also bring to Newcastle is a new attacking dimension. Assists, set-piece ability, even the odd goal from a free-kick. Trippier might also tempt other players to chance their arm and move to Tyneside.

While his wages will be huge, it is worth it. Getting Trippier to the club before other clubs become involved, is a move that the new owners will simply not regret.
