Is the 24-year-old set to stay with Newcastle United?

The Mail have reported that in-demand Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend is “keen to stay with Rafael Benitez” in the Championship next season.
The 24-year-old is strongly linked with an immediate return to the Premier League, with Sky Sports reporting on Tuesday that Crystal Palace had triggered the England international’s £10.5 million release clause at St James’s Park.

His future has been a subject of much debate in recent weeks and, to be fair, few would blame him if he did decide to stay in the top flight.
Townsend showed enough in Newcastle’s futile relegation battle to suggest he is more than good enough to ply his trade in the Premier League, having netted four times in the club’s last 11 games.

Indeed, his surge in form appears to have coincided with the arrival of Benitez – who replaced Steve McClaren toward the end of March – and The Mail has claimed that the former Tottenham Hotspur man is happy enough to slug it out in the second tier with the Spaniard next term.
If true, Newcastle fans will love Townsend even more after what would be a massive show of commitment from the player.
