The Tottenham Hotspur striker is reportedly ruled out until Christmas.

Tottenham Hotspur dutch striker Vincent Janssen (C) is escorted by Turkish police officersupon his arrival at Ataturk International airport in Istanbul, on September 8, 2017.

The Sun have reported that Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen will be absent until Christmas with injury in a development which is likely to scupper his efforts to leave North London this suummer.

The Netherlands international has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Tottenham before the European transfer window shuts.

Fenerbahce have been touted for much of the summer to re-sign Janssen, who spent last season on loan with the Turkish outfit.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Premier League side for £17 million from AZ Alkmaar two years ago [The Sun], was not given a squad number by manager Mauricio Pochettino in a move which indicated that his future did not lie with Spurs.

However, Janssen might be forced to stay until January at the earliest after “aggravating” a problem which sidelined him last season, The Sun claims.

It’s a big blow for the Lilywhites and indeed the player himself. The club lose a bit of money by keeping him until January, at which point he will only have 18 months left on his contract, while the Dutchman would have been looking forward to turning over a new leaf surely.

Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente are Pochettino’s only recognised number nines, if the report about Janssen is confirmed.

Vincent Janssen of Tottenham looks on during the pre-season match between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.
