Manchester United are reportedly closing in on Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld could be a Manchester United player by Monday after a breakthrough in talks this weekend.
Spurs have been fairly quiet in the transfer market this summer both in terms of outgoings and incomings, but fans may now be expecting business to pick up in the final days of the window.
On Thursday, Sky Sports claimed that three players – Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele – are effectively available for transfer, and one of them appears close to leaving.
The Mirror report that Manchester United are now closing in on Tottenham’s Alderweireld, and the defender could be a Red Devils player by Monday in a huge £60million move.
It’s claimed that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has now accepted that Alderweireld will move on next summer, either on a free transfer when his contract ends or in a pre-agreed £25m release clause if his deal is extended, and has decided to cash in now whist Spurs control the fee.
With a breakthrough allegedly made, United expect to land Alderweireld in the next 48 hours, offering a major boost to Jose Mourinho’s defensive options ahead of the new Premier League season.

Alderweireld, 29, has been a key part of the Spurs side since his 2015 move from Atletico Madrid, forming a strong centre back partnership with Jan Vertonghen having previously played together for Germinal Beerschot, Ajax and Belgium.
Their long-standing partnership was broken last season though as Alderweireld suffered with injuries and then failed to regain his place from Davinson Sanchez, and he looks set for a move to Old Trafford before the transfer deadline, potentially giving Mauricio Pochettino a financial boost in the coming days.
