The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit from the club this summer.
According to a report from the Scottish Sun, Tottenham star Mousa Dembele has rejected the chance to join Italian giants Inter Milan, and will instead run down the final year of his contract in north London before leaving for free next summer.
The Serie A giants have been after the Belgian ace all summer long, in the hope of linking him up with his countryman Radja Nainggolan at the San Siro this season.
Dembele joined Spurs from Fulham in the summer of 2012, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £15 million, and he has gone on to establish himself as one of the club’s most important players during his time at White Hart Lane.
The unique manner in which the 31-year-old plays makes replacing him an almost impossible task for Tottenham, so losing him for nothing next year really would be a bitter pill to swallow.
The Scottish Sun claims that Spurs were willing to sell the midfielder to Inter Milan, but he rejected a switch to Italy after the Serie A side’s officials made an approach to his representatives.
So unless Tottenham can tie Dembele down to a new contract, it seems as though he will leave the club on a free transfer in 12 months time.
