Report: Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino considered by Real Madrid a potential successor for Zidane

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has won a number of admirers at Real Madrid, according to reports.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Marca, Mauricio Pochettino has impressed the Real Madrid board so much with the job that he has done with Tottenham that he is one of the main candidates that they want to consider when they have to replace Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu.

Pochettino has established himself as one of the finest managers currently working in the Premier League, having taken Southampton to the next level and then taking Spurs from contenders for a European spot each year to main players in the title race.

Marca reports that the Argentinian is highly thought of at the Bernabeu, and Los Blancos are keeping a keen eye on his progress in case they need to find a replacement for Zidane in the future.

Marca adds that Pochettino is under contract with Tottenham until 2021, and that it may not be too much of a surprise to see him join the La Liga giants after that deal expires.

It is certainly interesting timing to suggest that Pochettino is on Real Madrid’s radar the day before his Spurs side take on Zidane’s men in the group-stages of the Champions League, especially with Zidane seemingly under little pressure currently.

If Pochettino is indeed on Madrid’s radar, Tottenham fans will probably be hoping that Spurs continue to give Los Blancos reason to be impressed, even if that potentially makes it harder to hold onto him further down the line.
