Defeat on the opening day of the Premier League season has increased the pressure on Tottenham. Spurs looked poor against Everton on Sunday but their summer transfer window has been impressive so far.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty are both solid additions to the squad, while Joe Hart’s signing brings some much-needed experience behind the scenes.
Tottenham aren’t done there either. Spurs need more quality in their squad to have any chance of making it into the top four. Thankfully for their supporters, it looks like a big signing is on the cards.
The Telegraph claims Tottenham are on the verge of completing the £27 million signing of Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon on a five-year deal. The young Spanish left-back had a tremendous season on loan at Sevilla last term and has been looked at by many clubs.
Spurs are set to beat Manchester United in the race for Reguilon, who will reportedly sign for Tottenham later today. The announcement, according to the report, will happen on Thursday and he would be a fine addition to the squad.
Reguilon is an upgrade to Rose and Davies
Mourinho’s first choice left-back at the moment is Ben Davies. Danny Rose’s time at the club is coming to an end while Jan Vertonghen, who featured at left-back last season, is no longer at the club.
Reguilon would be an upgrade over all those players. The Spaniard would offer a much bigger threat in attack while his pace allows him to get back to his own defensive third rapidly.
The Real Madrid defender’s crossing is excellent too. Someone like Harry Kane will have the opportunity to score many goals from crosses, which adds another dimension to Spurs’ attack.
With an announcement reportedly due tomorrow, Tottenham fans should be excited. Signing a player from Real Madrid is a big move commercially as well and Reguilon might not be the only player from the Bernabeu heading to north London this summer.
