Even Tottenham Hotspur’s coaching staff have been shocked by how far short of his best Gareth Bale has been this season, The Sun claim.

Bale has barely made an impact at Spurs since he arrived back at the club to a hero’s welcome in the summer.

The issue has come to the fore this week, when Bale apparently told Jose Mourinho that he wasn’t fit enough to play against Everton.

Mourinho said after the match that the issue was not an injury, but just a ‘bad feeling’.

And concerns are growing among Tottenham’s coaching staff over Bale’s lack of form.

Spurs’s backroom team are said to be worried about Bale’s confidence, application and attitude.

For Bale to turn things around at Spurs is now going to require a major change in fortunes for the Welshman.

It is difficult to see just when Bale’s next chance is going to come, as Mourinho has plenty of other attacking options.

Both Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura have fought their way back into contention in recent weeks, leaving Bale even further down the pecking order.

Tottenham are next in action against Manchester City later today.
