According to a report in The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur would have to cover all of Christian Eriksen’s £300,000-a-week wages if they want to loan him in.
This comes off the back of Leicester backing away from a potential deal after learning of Eriksen’s hefty pay-packet.
A deal to bring Eriksen back to north London would never have been cheap, after all, Inter signed him on a cut-price deal just 12 months ago, and they won’t want to lose out financially, but the £300k-a-week figure is bordering on ridiculous.
That figure would reportedly make Eriksen Spurs’ highest-paid player by some way, and it would see him paid twice as much as Dele Alli, who is supposedly on £150,000 a week.
Spurs are still interested in a move for Eriksen, but if those figures don’t come down a bit, it’s hard to see Daniel Levy sanctioning a loan move for the Dane, especially seeing as the big-money loan to bring Gareth Bale back to the club hasn’t gone to plan.
Of course, with the transfer deadline approaching, Inter’s demands could change, but right now Spurs would have to outlay a lot of money to sign Eriksen, and that’s before we even factor in the loan fee that they would reportedly be forced to pay.
This is a situation that doesn’t look likely to be resolved anytime soon, so keep your eyes out for any more developments in the coming days.
