According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to spend big on a new left-sided centre-half this summer.
According to this report, Spurs are willing to spend what is being described as ‘Romero money’ on a new centre-half, and that should excite Tottenham supporters.
Romero, when his transfer is made permanent, will cost Tottenham £42m, and it looks as though Spurs are willing to spend a similar fee on a left-sided defender.
Who Tottenham end up signing remains to be seen, but there are a few players they have been linked with.
Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol are Spurs’ top two targets, but with Bastoni’s agent quashing any speculation and Gvardiol reportedly valued at much higher than even Romero, it seems as though Tottenham will have to step aside in the race for their signatures.
However, links to Sven Botman and Pau Torres persist, and with Spurs ready to spend north of £40m on a new defender, those two could be viable options.
Of course, transfers are never as straightforward as they should be, especially when Spurs are involved, but with Daniel Levy ready to spend big, Fabio Paratici shouldn’t find it too hard to agree a deal for a quality new centre-half.
Tottenham mean business this summer, and the addition of a brilliant left-sided defender could catapult them to the next level.
This is certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on.
