According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham were one step away from signing Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan in September.
The Italian news outlet document how well the Slovakian has performed recently, saying the defender has gone ‘from the suitcases for London to past glories’ in Milan.
Gazzetta dello Sport add that Skriniar had his bags packed ahead of a move to north London over the summer.
However, the move never materialised, and Spurs went on to sign Joe Rodon from Swansea for £11 million.
Gazzetta dello Sport are right. Since spending time on Antonio Conte’s bench amid the transfer saga, Skriniar is now back to his best.
The centre-back – who Inter paid £18 million for in July 2017 – has scored twice in his last four Serie A outings.
His efforts have helped Inter sit just three points behind AC Milan in the Serie A title race.
So, what type of player is the man who nearly joined Tottenham?
Well, when comparing him against another Slovakian in Martin Skrtel, ESPN describe Skriniar as a graceful and elegant defender.
With Davinson Sanchez currently not a favourite under Jose Mourinho, who knows if the ex-Real Madrid coach will go back in for the Inter No.37.
By all accounts, he appears to be an excellent defender – it’s no surprise Tottenham were so close to signing him.
