According to 90Min, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari ahead of the January transfer window.
It’s claimed that Spurs are still looking for new centre backs despite adding Joe Rodon in October, and Jose Mourinho wants a left-footed player.
Yet with a budget of just £15million, Tottenham are having to cast their net far and wide as they look to land Jan Vertonghen’s heir, following his move to Benfica.
Ferrari a leading target
The report notes that whilst Borussia Dortmund’s Dan-Axel Zagadou is a lofty target, Sassuolo ace Ferrari is a realistic target for Spurs.
The 28-year-old attracted interested from Everton in recent times, and he should fit into Tottenham’s budget – but some may be worried about spending on a player at his age, given that he turns 29 in May.
Ferrari is 6ft 2in tall and earned an Italian call-up in 2018, but has yet to earn a cap. With spells at Parma, Gubbio, Crotone and Sassuolo as well as a host of loans, Ferrari has taken a long path to stardom, but could soon end up in the Premier League.

Chiriches partnership
Ferrari has been a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s exciting Sassuolo side, sitting third in the Serie A table behind only Inter and AC Milan – and he’s struck up a partnership with an ex-Spurs man.
De Zerbi’s first-choice centre back pairing is Ferrari and Vlad Chiriches, the Romanian who struggled at Tottenham following an £8.5milion move in 2013.
If Spurs do sign Ferrari in 2021, fans will certainly be hoping that he’s more of a success than Chiriches was, and Spurs scouts have seemingly been impressed with his work alongside the former Tottenham man this season.
