Tottenham Hotspur want to sign a left-sided central defender who is an upgrade on Ben Davies, according to The Athletic.
The Athletic have reported this morning that although Davies has done well in that position despite being a left-back by trade, Tottenham want someone better to play alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier.
Harsh on Tottenham defender Ben Davies
In our opinion, it would be harsh on Davies, who is on £60,000 a week (Spotrac), if Tottenham do sign a new left-sided centre-back.
We think that the 28-year-old has done well in that position.
Let us not forget that Davies is a left-back by trade.

It is not easy to learn a new position quickly, but the Wales international has done well under Conte.
Davies has made 19 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Tottenham so far this season, providing one assist in the process.
In our view, if Tottenham do sign a player in his position, then Davies should look to leave.
There is no point in the 28-year-old warming the bench at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Davies is at the top of his game now.
Moreover, Wales could be in the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar later in the year, and Davies would have to be in top form.
