Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff.
According to The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur have been scouting Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff ahead of a possible bid.
Spurs can now rest a little easier about Mauricio Pochettino’s future after Manchester United confirmed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their permanent boss, but they must still press for summer signings.
Tottenham haven’t made a signing for more than a year, and reports suggest that they have been scouting a whole host of players ahead of the summer window.
The Guardian claim that Tottenham have been watching a number of exciting young talents, and Newcastle United’s Longstaff is one player they’ve been taking a keen interest in.
Longstaff, 21, has come up through the Magpies ranks having been been in Newcastle, and has now emerged as a new first-team star for Rafael Benitez this season.
Longstaff made 11 appearances this season before suffering a major knee injury, which may keep him out for the rest of the season. In that time though, he thrived in the Newcastle midfield and even earned calls for England recognition.
The youngster has already been compared to fellow Geordie Michael Carrick, who was a Spurs favourite before being sold to Manchester United for £18million (Independent).
Tottenham would love to have another Carrick on their hands, but Newcastle will surely stand firm in their attempts to keep Longstaff on Tyneside for years to come.
