Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on James Maddison.

According to The Mirror, Leicester City playmaker James Maddison is a target for Tottenham Hotspur as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen.

Spurs aren’t exactly looking to sell star creator Eriksen, but there is growing concern that they may be forced to offload him before his contract expires.

The Dane’s £70,000-a-week deal (Sky Sports) expires at the end of next season, and Spurs have so far been unable to make a breakthrough in their attempts to tie him to a new deal.

That means that Spurs are beginning to look at potential replacements, and The Mirror claim that Leicester star Maddison is emerging as a top target.

Maddison, 22, only joined Leicester in a £24million move from Norwich City last summer, but his superb Premier League form has seemingly rekindled Tottenham’s interest.

Five goals and four assists have pushed Maddison into England contention, and he may well feel that a move to Spurs could be the next step forward.

Add in that Maddison is something of a set piece wizard – much like Eriksen – and it’s clear why Spurs are at least considering him as a potential successor to the former Ajax man.

Tottenham need homegrown players for Premier League and Champions League quotas, and Maddison is one of a host of targets believed to be under consideration for Mauricio Pochettino and co.
