According to Super Deporte, Tottenham are interested in re-signing Gareth Bale with his contract at Real Madrid set to expire soon.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Bale is set to leave Real Madrid when his contract expires in June.

It will mark the end of his hugely successful stint at the Santiago Bernabeu following his £85.3m move from Spurs in 2013.

In 254 appearances for Los Blancos, Bale has scored 106 goals while also winning the Champions League on four occasions.

Now, Super Deporte believe a number of clubs are interested in signing him, with Tottenham leading the race.

Interestingly, Antonio Conte wanted the Welshman at Inter Milan in 2019, so this rumour could have legs.

However, the north Londoners don’t want to pay a fee in January, so will opt to wait until he becomes a free agent in June.

In our view, this wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially for free.

Bale proved last season that he still has plenty to offer in England, scoring 16 goals in all competitions for Tottenham.

The 32-year-old – who Gary Lineker once described as ‘gifted’ – is also able to operate as a left wing-back, which could be of interest to Conte.

It would also be a necessary signing as the likes of Steven Bergwijn have struggled to adapt, so there isn’t much attacking depth in N17.

Perhaps above all, it would give Tottenham fans a proper chance to welcome back a club legend, having missed out on his season-long return due to the pandemic.

Keep an eye on this saga, with Bale highly unlikely to sign a new contract at Real Madrid.
