Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing the Tottenham Hotspur defender.

According to a report from the Express, Tottenham are holding out for £60 million for Toby Alderweireld this summer, and in response, Manchester United are prepared to play the waiting game in the race for the Belgian’s signature.
The 29-year-old joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of just £11.5 million, and he has since gone on to establish himself as one of the continent’s finest central defenders.

Whilst Pochettino will surely not want to lose Alderweireld, he might just be forced into doing just that, considering the fact that the Belgium international has a £25 million release clause inserted into his current contract that will be activated in the summer of 2019, according to the Guardian.

So cashing in now for somewhere in the region of £60 million seems to be the correct decision, from a business perspective at least.
The Express claim that United are not willing to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the Belgian, and will play the waiting game in the hope that Spurs lower their price for the centre-back.

Daniel Levy is notoriously difficult to deal with, though, so the Red Devils had better be prepared for a real scrap if they truly want to sign Alderweireld this summer.
