According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to wait with a move for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – but there is a lingering threat from Everton.
Back in January, Sky Sports reported that Tottenham were interested in signing the Dane, making him one of their top targets for the summer window.
However, the global pandemic has hit since then, impacting finances. It’s now believed that Spurs are going to wait and see what their budget will be before pushing for a move.
That’s a sensible approach, as Spurs will have a limited budget at their disposal given that they owe money for past transfers and for their stadium, but they could miss out on the Saints star.
Everton are thought to be monitoring the situation too. That means the Toffees may be able to swoop in and leave Tottenham disappointed in their pursuit of Hojbjerg.
The 24-year-old has been a solid and reliable performer for Southampton since joining from Bayern Munich in 2016, and is now captain at St Mary’s Stadium.

With just over a year left on his contract, Hojbjerg may be sold this summer before he leaves for free. Spurs seemingly hope that the pandemic forces Southampton to sell for less than they would ideally like.
Jose Mourinho needs midfield reinforcements, and a gritty battler like Hojbjerg makes sense. He maybe wouldn’t be the sexiest addition in the engine room – but much will depend on whether Mourinho actually has any money to spend.
