Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on Riqui Puig.
According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona are set to lose midfielder Riqui Puig to Tottenham Hotspur, with a deal thought to be close.
The La Masia conveyor belt of talent has somewhat slowed down in recent years, but there has been plenty of excitement about midfielder Puig.
The 18-year-old playmaker has featured for the Barcelona Juvenil A team, thriving in the UEFA Youth League, whilst he has even made three appearances for the Barcelona B team this season.
Puig looks set for stardom, but his future may not lie with Barcelona, as Catalan newspaper Sport report that Tottenham Hotspur are very close to signing the midfielder.
It’s claimed that Puig’s contract expires this summer and has yet to receive a deal to stay with Barcelona, which has allowed Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to swoop in.
Pochettino – no stranger to Catalunya having played for and managed Espanyol – is allegedly ‘in love’ with Puig’s ability, and a deal is thought to be close as talks are ‘advanced’.
A decision will come in the next few days as Barcelona are left to fight for the diminutive playmaker’s future, but the report states that a move to Tottenham looks to be near.
That would make Puig Tottenham’s first signing of the summer, handing Pochettino a technically-gifted wonderkid to work with for years to come.
