Junior Nkwonta will not be swapping Manchester United for Tottenham Hotspur with AllNigeriaSoccerreporting that the North London giants have decided against signing the Old Trafford starlet.

With a young centre-back due to become a free agent in the summer of 2020, Nkwonta would surely have been hoping to be offered fresh terms by another of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

It looked for all the world that Jose Mourinho would raid the club that sacked him a year-and-a-half ago for the signature of a talented Nigerian whose technical ability opens the door to a potential central midfield role too.

Nkwonta had spent time training with Spurs before the entire footballing world was brought to a shuddering half.

But, for whatever reason, it seems that a potential move to the English capital won’t be happening after all with Tottenham deciding against a deal for a young man who has honed his trade at the club who gave us the likes of Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Paul Scholes.

AllNigeriaSoccer claims that Nkwonta could now drop down the divisions with Exeter City and Peterborough United taking a shine to him.

Tottenham may have opted not to bring Nkwonta to London but, with Jan Vertonghen expected to bid an emotional farewell at some point this year, Mourinho will be desperate to his current employers to bring in defensive reinforcements sooner rather than later.
