Football London have claimed Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino will reject any advances from Southampton for out-of-favour attacker Erik Lamela before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline.

The Independent claim Southampton are looking to take advantage of Tottenham’s move to sign Paris Saint-Germain speed machine Lucas Moura, by luring 25-year-old Lamela to the South Coast.

Lamela is on the fringes of the Spurs squad at the moment after the former Roma winger was sidelined for more than a year after suffering a hip injury in October 2016, which saw him undergo two operations to correct the issue.

It has limited him to just 11 Premier League outings this season, clocking up a total of only 273 minutes in England’s top tier as he remains way down the pecking order.

The likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min and Moussa Sissoko remain above the Argentina international, while the signing of Moura will see him struggle for game time even more so.

However, Pochettino is said to be a big fan of his fellow countryman and is reportedly set to reject any advances for the attacker.

In contrast to leaving the club, it is believed that Lamela could be now in line for a new contract at Spurs if he can continue to prove his fitness and return to form. His current deal expires in the summer of 2019.
