Son has more than two years remaining on his Tottenham contract.

Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur clears the ball during The Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round Replay between Tottenham Hotspur and Rochdale on February 28, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

The London Evening Standard claim Tottenham Hotspur are set to offer South Korean attacker Son Heung-min a new contract to remain in north London beyond the summer of 2020.

The 25-year-old has scored 13 goals this season for Spurs after already clocking up 40 appearances in all competitions, as well as laying on a huge nine assists for the north Londoners.

He is said to be earning £60,000 a week at Tottenham, with two and a half years remaining on the five-year deal that he signed when joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Son is currently on the fringes of the Spurs squad with one slot in the starting eleven up for grabs, as Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen remain mainstays of Pochettino’s side behind Harry Kane.

It leaves just one slot in the side and Son will be hoping he can beat Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura and Moussa Sissoko for a place on Saturday as Spurs play host to Huddersfield before facing Juventus on Wednesday.

Son deserves deal, but should he be a priority?

Son has certainly been in excellent form and more than deserves a place in the side, but there are other players in Pochettino’s side that need to be prioritised ahead of the versatile attacker.

Defensive duo Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld remain in the final 18 months of contract, along with Mousa Dembele and Fernando Llorente. Pochettino should consider offering deals for the quartet, first.
