According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Porto will hand striker Fabio Silva a new contract amid links to Tottenham Hotspur.
In April, Calciomercato claimed interest in Silva was mounting. Juventus and Tottenham were described as being the two clubs showing the most interest.
It was noted that Porto needed to sell amid the global pandemic, but that seemingly won’t be happening now – especially as his release clause hasn’t changed.
It’s claimed that Silva is set to sign a new deal with Porto, which may be confirmed on July 19th – Silva’s 18th birthday. The new deal will take him up to 2025.
Silva only signed an ew deal back in November, which included a €125million release clause. That £111million figure remains in place now, with no change despite the agreement.
Porto have likely committed more money to Silva in terms of wages, and at least have him locked down for a few more years.
They’re highly unlikely to receive that £111million release clause; that’s merely just to protect Porto in case the 17-year-old attacker reaches his potential and becomes an absolute star.
Still, the new deal may just deter Tottenham. They’re unlikely to be in a position to pay considerable money for a new striker, given the global pandemic.
