According to a report in The Athletic, Tottenham target Danny Ings’ agent is trying to install a release clause into his contract this summer.

Ings has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham, but as you can imagine, Southampton aren’t keen to lose their star man and are attempting to renew his contract.

Unfortunately for the Saints, Ings’ agent is being a tricky negotiator, and he’s asking for a cut-price release clause to be put into his clients contract.

The Athletic report that the south-coast outfit are fine with Ings having a release clause, but as you can imagine, they want it to represent a fair price for a player who netted 21 league goals last season.

The striker’s agent seemingly sees things a little bit differently though, and the report claims that the two parties are £20 million apart in their valuation of Ings amid interest from Tottenham.

If Southampton were to agree to this deal then Ings would be able to leave for £20 million less than they value him at, which obviously isn’t ideal for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, a release clause like this may be the only way they can land the England international, with the report claiming that Southampton are reluctant to negotiate with the London club, but of course, the inclusion of a release clause would negate that.

Whether or not Ings’ agent can convince Southampton to agree
