The Evening Standard claim Antonio Conte has suffered a further blow, after a scan has potentially ruled Rodrigo Bentancur out for the next three weeks. The Tottenham midfielder has made a solid impression so far.
Bentancur, 24, was hooked at half-time during the 1-0 defeat at Burnley – a dismal loss that saw Conte even question his own position as Spurs manager. But it appears that the Uruguayan actually suffered an injury.
The ex-Juventus man went for a scan on Thursday and it is not good news. It is believed Bentancur will be sidelined for the next three weeks. That has not been confirmed, but fears are he could be missing until mid-March.
It is a blow for Tottenham – not only because the January recruit has been excellent, a positive in the midst of a run of negative form. But also, because Oliver Skipp is still returning from an infection on a groin injury.
Bentancur injury: Tottenham forced to play 3-4-3 system against Leeds
It means that Spurs are left with Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s clash. That means that Conte is stuck in trying to alter the inconsistent Spurs side – after Wednesday’s loss.
It comes after he allowed Tanguy Ndombele, Gio Lo Celso and Dele Alli to leave the club in the summer. Of course, Dele and Lo Celso combined in a 3-5-2 formation to draw against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season.
