Tottenham Hotspur are keeping an eye on developments on Troy Deeney’s future, although West Bromwich Albion are leading the race, the Daily Mail say.
West Brom are now talking to Watford over signing Deeney, as they press ahead with plans.
Tottenham are said to be monitoring their progress, as they weigh up making a bid of their own.
Jose Mourinho has targeted Premier League experience and leadership qualities this summer, and Deeney possesses both of those qualities.
The target-man, who has been linked with a whole host of clubs this summer, is now 32 though, and there are question marks over whether he is the sort of player who could really take Tottenham to the next level.
That being said, Deeney did score 10 goals in the Premier League last term, and could help Spurs have more cover for Harry Kane, in case the England captain is forced to miss any of the season with injury again.
Watford ideally would surely like to keep Deeney, but following their relegation they could be forced to sell, and Spurs would be able to finance his wages far more easily than the Hornets’ currently can.
