According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur remain in the race to sign Adam Lallana – but Leicester City are leading the race for his signature.

It’s claimed that there is a five-team battle for Lallana’s signature. Leicester are the front of the queue due to Lallana’s relationship with his ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

However, four other teams are still in the race. Tottenham are one of them, alongside Arsenal, Burnley and West Ham United, with Lallana a man in demand.

His £110,000-a-week Liverpool contract expires this summer, and he’s seemingly moving on. He is only a bit-part player at Liverpool, but he could feature more prominently elsewhere.

Lallana, 32, has spent six years with the Reds. He’s now notched 22 goals and 22 assists in 178 games for Liverpool, proving himself as a fine servant since moving from Southampton.

Tottenham looking at him is more than understandable. With the global pandemic hitting their transfer budget, free transfers will become hugely appealing as Jose Mourinho looks to re-tool his squad.

However, Lallana isn’t what Spurs need. What they need is a real battler, a player who can dig in and protect the back four. They have a ball-player in Harry Winks, and a box-to-box player in Tanguy Ndombele.

With Eric Dier preferring to play in defensive, an anchor man is needed. Lallana isn’t that player; he’s more of a forward-thinking player, somebody who can thrive in tight spaces and create in the final third.

Spurs have the likes of Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela who can play in a number 10 role. Adding Lallana would give Mourinho a lot to juggle, and adding to the wage bill with a player in his 30’s who wouldn’t start regularly just isn’t a move Spurs should make.
