According to a report from the Daily Star, La Liga side Real Betis have offered a contract to Tottenham Hotspur star Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian has a little over a month left on his current contract with Spurs and, although he hasn’t ruled out extending his stay, it looks likely that he will leave this summer.

Vertonghen recently turned 33 and his next contract will possibly be his last. The former Ajax man would want one big pay day before he bows out of the game and it is unlikely that he will get that at Tottenham during these difficult times.

The report claims that Vertonghen hasn’t yet decided on his future. His representatives have allegedly been in talks with a number of clubs including Valencia, Roma and Inter Milan but Real Betis seem to be leading the race.

The ambitious La Liga outfit reportedly held extensive talks with Vertonghen’s representatives and decided to offer him a two-year contract.

The Belgian will also be a due a big signing-on fee as a free agent which, financially, makes it a no-brainer for him to leave Tottenham at the end of his current contract.

Mourinho would certainly love to keep hold of Vertonghen for at least another year, considering that he will not have a lot of money to spend in the upcoming transfer window.

The Belgian’s potential departure will force Tottenham to look for another centre-half, which is something that Daniel Levy could have done without this summer.
